BREDDOS TACOS

The thin-shaped radishes are lovely. They look very fresh! And it’s nice to have a side of lime.
— Liv
The contrast between the pink and the blue is really pretty. The blue colour of the taco is unexpected, but it doesn’t put me off.
— Pauline

It’s very spicy. I think it’s a little too spicy, it overpowers things for me. The pickles and the sliced radishes aren’t very prominent. Even the cilantro isn’t. You can basically taste corn, which is nice, and then spicy pork. It’s not very nuanced. I’d like more vegetables. These would be good after you have a drink or two, and you want something that’ll punch you in the face, taste-buds wise. Or as a sober-upper. These would go really well with a beer. For me, it’s too few vegetables and too much spice. I want something to balance the meat and unify it with the pork - more radish, more onions.
— Liv
It’s just the right amount of spiciness for me. I’d like more veg, I’d like more of a crunch. The cream brings a nice touch, and balances the spiciness. They’re easy to eat, which is nice, and they hold themselves together, which is good. Obviously they leak a bit, but not too much, in comparison to some others. You can really taste the corn, probably because it’s blue, which is really nice.

It’s quite a lot of sauce, but the colour is nice. The presentation is good, they’ll keep in shape. I’m not a huge fan of the concept here - you come in, you wait to get seated, then while you wait to get seated someone takes your drink order, and once you get seated you have to go back up and order, which seems doubled up. And then you order on a screen but still pay with a person. It’s just a bit awkward, a bit gimmicky. I really like their collection of sauces, though. Lots of salsa.
— Liv
It looks a bit like the slaw is leaking onto the chicken, and it might be a bit soggy, and not as crispy as expected. They’re also quite big, which is a good thing! I like that they have free drink re-fills.
— Pauline
It’s smoky! And not soggy at all. The taco is very soft and smooth. It has that baby’s bottom feel to it. It’s a bit too much major for me. The chicken is quite moist but still crispy, which is nice. The vegetables aren’t very prominent in this, but the tacos are very nice, they taste fresher than the last ones. Good chicken, good sauce, good spice, good vegetables, but too much sauce. It covers everything up.
— Liv
You can really taste the pickle and the slaw, which brings some really nice acidity. The mayo hides the taste of the pickles, which is a shame. These tacos are less corny that the last ones, I really liked that. If there were less sauce, these would be really nice.

LUPITA

This is another different type of corn tortilla, this one’s a bit darker than the last one. On the menu it said the pineapples would be grilled, and these don’t look like they are, so we’ll find out. I like that they serve it with a lime. The pork looks promising, crispy and yet succulent.
— Liv
On paper I really liked the idea of the pineapples, but those chunks are quite big, I’m not sure how well that will go down. There’s also no vegetable other than a bit of pickled onion. The pork looks good though.
— Pauline
Hmm. It’s a tiny bit dry, and the pineapple is cold to touch, but I think taste-wise this is my favourite so far. I really like the pineapple with the pork. It’s a bit spicy, but not too much. It’s well-salted because of the bacon. But unfortunately it’s a bit too dry. We need one of the salsas from the last place. The actual taco is kind of nondescript, it’s the least corn-tasting.
— Liv
It’s way too dry. this really needs a sauce. I like the flavour of the pineapple and the meat, but I wish the pineapple was warm. The flavours are really nice, the bacon definitely adds something. But it needs sauces. The taco is also dry, sadly. It’s quite sandy to touch, a bit rough.

HOTBOX

This looks very pretty. I LOVE the look of it. I love how golden the taco is. I like that the sauce is under and not on top, so it doesn’t smudge the whole thing. And there are crispy onions on top, which I really love.
— Pauline
It’s doesn’t look very traditional, but I’m ok with that. The radishes look like they’ll be a nice crunch. There’s a little bit of green to it and some fried shallots that look lovely, and only a little bit of mayo. It also looks like there’s a green sauce, maybe chimichurri?
— Liv

Oh wow. The meat has so much flavour. It’s moist as well, without being soggy, and it doesn’t leak. You can properly taste every single ingredient. And the crispiness of the onions is perfect. 10/10.
— Pauline
That’s nice! Oh my god! So there’s a green, chimichurri salsa verde-like sauce, which is delicious. Whenever we were missing salsa with the other ones I feel like this is what we were missing. There’s just a hint of mayo, not too much.

THE WINNER

Hotbox is definitely the winner. Everything is really fresh and tasty, and there’s lots of different textures. It’s so succulent, and they’re really filling. I really liked the first one, too, it was so fresh and tangy and zingy. I really didn’t like the third one, it was so dry. The meat was the only good thing about it.
— Pauline
Hotbox. I think it’s a bit of a shame that the best taco turned out to be not a Mexican one, but oh well. The quality of the meat and the ratio of the ingredients is what makes this one so good. The other ones weren’t as balanced as this one - you really need that mix of great meat, some acid, some herbs, some crispiness. Really good flavours, really well flavours. It just doesn’t taste Mexican at all. The flavour of the third one was really nice. I wish we could have this sauce with the first blue corn taco and the pineapple and the meat of the third one and the salsas of the second one. All of them did a couple of things really good, but this one is the best one.
