ROUND ONE

MARGHERITA with buffalo mozzarella, £9

This is a very grown-up pizza. I don’t like the charcoal taste, it’s too bitter. I really like the cheese though, the cheese makes the pizza. The tomato sauce is nice too, but it’s all about this cheese for me. Something is missing, I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe chilli oil? I feel like, if you’re going to go for a margherita, it needs to tick all the boxes, and there’s just a little something missing here.

Mmmh. Really good tomato sauce. The dough is a bit burnt, which gives it a nice charcoal-y flavour. But you have to use your fork and knife, you can’t eat it with your hands, it’s quite soggy. The dough is too yeasty for me. I feel like it’ll keep cultivating in my stomach after. I prefer a crispy pizza. The tomato sauce is lovely, fresh and acidic, and the toppings are lovely and fresh, too. This is a really nice Italian classic.

"SALSICCIA E FRIARELLI" WHITE PIZZA with fresh fennel sausage, chilli, wild broccoli, parmesan, basil & olive oil £10

The dough reminds me of a pancake texture. The cheese is really soft and chewy. It’s a little bit on the bland side, the cheese, but the veg is nice and spicy, which is a good balance. I like it. It makes me think of the countryside, it’s very rustic. I don’t love having pizza without tomato sauce, though. It feels like a starter pizza.

The fennel sausage is delicious, but without tomato sauce, this is just a bit meh. Give me tomato sauce! If you put this fennel sausage on the margarita, bingo. If you want to try something new, on trend and different, you should come here. They have great specials, they do some great flavour mixes. And the most important thing in a pizza is the tomato sauce, which is so good here. I’ll forgive anything for a great tomato sauce.
